Smart got a jumpstart on his 2023 award when he narrowly saved a loose ball from careening out of bounds to turn it into a steal, assist and two points all in one sequence. The 2022 Defensive Player of the Year straddled the sideline and flung a heads-up pass to an all-alone Jayson Tatum, who rewarded Smart’s hustle with a one-handed fastbreak throwdown.
