So far, so good in their goal of surviving the pushback of a Connecticut Sun juggernaut looking to preserve its title hopes, the Minnesota Lynx weren’t oblivious to the possibility of a miracle comeback in the soon-to-arrive second half. Before that time arrived, though, they received a last-second gift from a player who made miracle-like shots a frequent addition to her highlight reel in the blue-and-orange threads not long ago. Encouraged to think quickly with only four seconds remaining and the entire floor’s length to go, Natisha Hiedeman jets down the floor in hopes of breaking free of DiJonai Carrington’s glue-tight defensive efforts. Finding the Mohegan Sun Arena’s rims just as welcoming as before, Hiedeman tests a mixture of luck and skill, ascending into a one-legged, 29-foot buzzer-beater that swishes through the nylon for a seven-point edge at intermission. A post-halftime rally by the Sun would ultimately undo the Lynx’s efforts in a loss on October 6, 2024, though Hiedeman was nonetheless electrifying.
