Taking his always-electric offensive approach to a different stratosphere in Brooklyn’s NBA Cup opener — against their in-state rivals, to boot — Thomas wasted zero time meeting the atmosphere, working free on a rhythmic stepback before burying a 3-pointer over Mikal Bridges. Owning one of the Association’s most aesthetically-pleasing offensive styles, Thomas’ style proved equally efficient as he recorded a 19-point, seven-of-seven scoring outburst during the game’s opening quarter. A game-winning bucket from the Knicks’ fellow scoring machine would ultimately deal Brooklyn a loss, but by night’s end, the box score spoke for itself.
