Spud Webb · As one of the shortest players in NBA history at 5-foot-6, Spud Webb made a living out of being underestimated by his opponents. Pasted to a much taller Detroit Pistons ball handler, the one-time Slam Dunk Contest champion reminds folks of his impressive leaping ability, timing his jump perfectly to swat away a shot attempt. An Atlanta Hawks teammate scoops up the loose ball and never takes his eyes off the speedy, in-transition Webb, who corrals a pass and beats his defender in stride with a slick up-and-under finish. In this instance and so many others like it, Webb’s heart mattered more than his height, posting seven points, three rebounds, five assists, a steal and a block off the bench in his squad’s gritty 101-99 victory on April 10, 1987. · State of Mint · State of Mint
